RALEIGH, N.C. — A man hoping to buy cell phones came away instead with a gunshot wound after an encounter Friday morning outside a Wendy's on Raleigh's Western Boulevard.

Raleigh police said Ali Salam, 38, was met by two men, one of whom showed a gun. The men struggled, and the gun went off. A bullet grazed the side of Salam's head.

“He’s bleeding a little bit,” the person who called 911 told dispatchers.

He described the car his attackers were in as a 2000s model gray Honda Accord last seen traveling on Carlton Avenue.
