Person County woman charged in 2-year-old son's death

A Person County woman who was charged with child abuse after her son died last year has been charged with murder, authorities said Friday.

Investigators with the Person County Sheriff’s Office said Ellen Brittany Green-Allen, 23, was charged with first-degree murder.

Her 2-year-old son, Donte Joseph Diven, died three days after going into cardiac arrest on July 30, 2014.

Paramedics and deputies were called to 145 Spruce Court in the Timberlake community about a child in cardiac arrest and found the boy, his mother and her boyfriend at a nearby gas station. The boy was taken to Duke University Hospital, where he was placed on life support.

Following the boy’s death, Green-Allen was charged with intentional child abuse inflicting serious physical injury.
