Perdue names Tolson to N.C. State board
Gov. Beverly Perdue on Friday appointed North Carolina Biotechnology Center Chief Executive Norris Tolson to the North Carolina State University Board of Trustees, replacing McQueen Campbell.

Tolson, 69, earned a bachelor’s degree in crop science and agribusiness from N.C. State and has served as state commerce, transportation and revenue secretary and in the General Assembly.
“Norris Tolson has a long history of leadership and service to North Carolina,” Perdue said in a statement. “I am confident that as a member of N.C. State University’s Board of Trustees, Norris will focus on immediate priorities for the university, students and faculty, while he also pushes N.C. State boldly into the future.”
Campbell, who chaired the Board of Trustees, resigned two weeks ago amid questions over his role in N.C. State's hiring and promotion of Mary Easley, the wife of former Gov. Mike Easley.
Mike Easley twice appointed Campbell to the Board of Trustees, and The News & Observer newspaper has reported that Campbell flew Easley in his private plane, although the trips were never disclosed in campaign finance reports.
Campbell has said he did nothing wrong in Mary Easley's hiring.
