Passengers flee, car wrecks trying to avoid traffic stop
A passenger jumped out of a car before a routine traffic stop early Friday, then the driver tried to speed away but crashed into a tree, Raleigh police said.
Posted — UpdatedAn officer tried to pull over the car for a registration violation shortly before 2 a.m., police said. One person jumped out of the car and ran away.
The driver then took off but crashed into a tree on Longview Lake Drive, police said. A second passenger jumped from the car and ran away.
Police took into custody the driver, who had non-life-threatening injuries. He was taken to WakeMed.
Police said early Friday that they are still searching for both suspects.
