Parole Panel Takes Up Case of Clayton Officer's Killer
The parole commission is considering the case of Bobby Smith. Four Clayton officers and Officer Ray Gilmore's parents attended the meeting Tuesday.
Posted — UpdatedRALEIGH, N.C. — The state parole commission Tuesday took up the case of a man convicted of killing a Clayton police officer, and town police were present.
The parents of Officer Ray Gilmore also came to the meeting of the Post-Release Supervision and Parole Commission.
The man who killed Gilmore in 1982, Bobby Smith, wants to be paroled.
The Clayton officers at the hearing said they consider Gilmore to be very much a part of the department, and his killing is discussed in their training.
It will be a few weeks before the commission makes a decision in Smith’s case. decides.
