Parkton Man Arrested on Federal Drug Charges
Cumberland County sheriff's deputies and Fayetteville police officers arrested a federal fugitive wanted for trafficking crack cocaine on Friday.

Brandon Shayne Melvin, 22, of 1762 Lake Upchurch Drive, sold drugs to undercover officers on numerous occasions, said officials with Cumberland County Sheriff's Office.
The arrest took place without incident in a restaurant parking lot at the intersection of Skibo and McPherson Church roads. A search of Melvin's vehicle found 29.34 grams of crack cocaine, more than $2,200 and a digital scale, officers said.
The arrest was a result of a investigation conducted by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency, Cumberland County Sheriff's Office and the Fayetteville Police Department. Melvin was wanted for violations of the federal controlled-substance laws.
Melvin is being held in the Cumberland County Detention Center without bond. A preliminary hearing is set for July 2 at the U.S. District Court in Wilmington.
No state charges are being pursued against him.
Melvin is also a registered sex offender and has been served warrants on charges of first-degree rape and kidnapping, motor-vehicle theft, felony larceny, carrying a concealed weapon and resisting a public officer.
