Parents of infant arrested in Apex on child abuse charges

APEX, N.C. — The parents of a 7-week-old were arrested on Thursday on charges of felony child abuse, Apex police said.

Darren Clark, 21, of 735 Reunion Ridge Way in Apex and Ashley Longmire, 20, of 1104 Falls Lane in Fuquay-Varina, are each charged with one count of felony child abuse inflicting serious physical injury.

Child Protective Services contacted Apex police on Feb. 12 to report that the infant had a broken arm, past and present rib fractures and a fractured skull.

The child was immediately put into the CPS’ custody and has remained there since the injuries were reported.

Clark and Longmire were being held under $100,000 bonds in the Wake County jail on Thursday.
