FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Police on Wednesday identified two men wanted in connection with the beating death of a Fayetteville man last week.

A fight broke out between Marcus Atherton, 36, and several people on School Street last Thursday afternoon, and Atherton then fled on foot towards Link Street, where he collapsed, police said.

He later died as a result of the blows he received during the fight, they said.

Police have issued arrest warrants for Dwight Dewey Bristol Jr., 22, of Lamon Street, and Tony Carl McGill, 41, no address available, on a charge of first-degree murder.

Anyone with information on either man's whereabouts is asked to call 911 or their local law enforcement agency.

Police said the case remains under investigation, and more people could be charged.
