HALIFAX COUNTY, N.C. — Southbound Interstate 95 will close for repairs overnight Sunday at the Halifax and Nash county line, transportation officials said.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation will post signs and message boards to alert motorists to a 5.6-mile detour around the closure, which begins at midnight Sunday. The right lane will reopen at 6 a.m. Monday while crews continue to work in the left lane.

Southbound I-95 will close again each night next week at 10 p.m., with the right lane reopening at 6 a.m., through Friday morning.

All traffic will be rerouted at Exit 154 until Exit 150. Although the work is scheduled at night during light traffic, the DOT recommends motorists planning extra time for in case of delays.

The closures are needed so crews can work on an I-95 bridge that spans Fishing Creek. The work is one of 13 rehabilitation projects on interstate bridges in Halifax, Nash and Northampton counties.
