Posted — UpdatedJosh Wiseman was stabbed in his left side on Jan. 22 and suffered a punctured lung, Orange County Sheriff Lindy Pendergrass said. He is expected to be out for several weeks.
Wiseman was stabbed during a scuffle at 6201 Cousin Drive in Efland while he and other deputies were trying to take an Efland man to UNC Hospitals for involuntary mental commitment.
William Alston III was still being evaluated Thursday, and Pendergrass said deputies would serve warrants charging him with the stabbing once he is released from the hospital.
A bench warrant was issued for Alston in December for failing to appear in court on a probation violation. Probation officials said Alston failed to check in with his probation officer and failed to get substance abuse treatment.
Wiseman last fall was cleared of wrongdoing in an August shooting in which he killed a man wanted for attempted murder and burglary.
