Second suspect surrenders in Benson slaying

Benson police said Terry Lamont Williams, 33, surrendered to authorities at the Johnston County jail in Smithfield about 1 p.m. He was held there under a $125,000 secured bond on a charge of accessory after the fact to first-degree murder.

Jermale Tavaris Williams, 29, surrendered to authorities in Wake County at about 4 p.m. Wednesday. He is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Richard O'Neal Longmire, 39, of Selma.

The slaying happened early Monday at a house at 325 W. Harnett St. in Benson. Officers responding to 911 calls arrived and found Longmire lying in the front yard with gunshot wounds to his head and abdomen, according to an incident report.

Relatives said Longmire often met the mother of his children at the house to exchange custody of their kids. Police were called to the house late Sunday over an altercation, and Longmire was shot hours later.

Police said they do not believe the brothers had any direct relationship to Longmire.
