Man, 47, killed in Selma house fire
A 47-year-old man was killed early Wednesday when fire broke out in a home in the 800 block of West Oak Street in Selma, authorities said.
Posted — UpdatedFire crews responded to the home at about 2:30 a.m. and had to force their way in through locked doors.
Selma Police Chief Richard Cooper said an unattended stove started the fire. Kenny Wayne Brockington either fell asleep or passed out after using the stove and never turned it off, he said.
Investigators believe the fire was accidental, and no foul play is suspected in Brockington's death, Cooper said.
Brockington would have turned 48 years old on Friday, and his niece, Cinquetta Brockington, said he was a happy man who loved to dance.
"Everybody around town loved him. Everybody knew uncle Kenny Wayne," she said.
