Knightdale High student killed in east Raleigh wreck
A 16-year-old Knightdale High School student died Wednesday morning in a wreck involving a City of Raleigh vehicle, State Highway Patrol officials said.
Posted — UpdatedTroopers said the wreck happened prior to 8 a.m., near the intersection of Forestville and Old Milburnie roads in east Raleigh, when the teen drove into the path of a Raleigh Public Works truck.
Edward Tyler Eason was killed in the wreck. Family members described him as smart, quiet and someone who has a big heart.
"It is still hard to grasp," said Ginger Lewis, Eason's aunt. "He should be coming home from school, but he is not coming home. That is kind of hard."
According to Lewis, the family was in the middle of planning a funeral for Eason's grandfather who has terminal cancer. They said they never thought they would have to planTyler's funeral.
City of Raleigh employee Michael Worner, of Wendell, was injured in the crash. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment, but information on the severity of his injuries has not been released.
"Our hearts go out to everyone involved in this tragic accident. However, since this is an ongoing police investigation, we cannot offer any details or comments regarding this incident," City of Raleigh officials said in a statement. "At this time, we will refer all questions to the State Highway Patrol and the Wake County Sheriff’s Office.”
A prayer circle at Knightdale High School has been planned for Thursday morning.
No information about the cause of the wreck has been released.
