On 150th anniversary of Lincoln's death, NC flags ordered to half-staff
Honoring the 150th anniversary of the death of President Abraham Lincoln, Gov. Pat McCrory ordered all flags lowered to half-staff at state facilities Wednesday.

"President Lincoln transformed our nation and changed world history for the betterment of mankind," McCrory said in a statement. "His assassination is a reminder that great deeds often require the ultimate sacrifice."
On April 14, 1865, actor and Confederate sympathizer John Wilkes Booth shot Lincoln during a play at Ford's Theatre in Washington, D.C. The attack came five days after Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee surrendered his army at the Appomattox Court House in Virginia, effectively ending the Civil War.
