MANTEO, N.C. — An Ohio man charged in connection with the slaying of his ex-girlfriend at the Outer Banks has been transported back to North Carolina, authorities said Sunday.

Nathan Summerfield, 27, was booked at the Dare County jail Saturday morning. He was denied bond and is due in court Tuesday morning.

Summerfield was arrested Wednesday in Medina County, Ohio, after a month on the run from law enforcement. He faces a first-degree murder charge in the strangling and stabbing death of his on-and-off girlfriend, Lynn Jackenheimer.

A grand jury is scheduled to convene Sept. 10 to listen to evidence against Summerfield, who is accused of killing Jackenheimer while they vacationed on Hatteras Island in July. Jackenheimer disappeared during the trip, and her body was found about two weeks later in a vacant lot in Frisco.
