DURHAM, N.C. — A four-month drugs and weapons investigation by the Durham County Sheriff's Office culminated this month in the arrests of nine people, including several known gang members, authorities said.

Investigators seized two illegal firearms, two vehicles, one gram of heroin, 43 grams of crack cocaine, 20 grams of marijuana and nearly $4,000 cash, the sheriff's office said Sunday. Ten search warrants were served over the course of the investigation.

The investigation targeted violent, repeat offenders, many of whom live in or frequent the Walltown area of north Durham, authorities said.

Jerry Lamont Powell, 30, and Caleb Cornelius Green, 32, were arrested Tuesday and charged with multiple counts of drug possession with intent to manufacture, sell and distribute, as well as one count each of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Seven other men were arrested on multiple drug charges:

  • Salaam Muhammad Adams III, 19, Brian Jones, 30, and John Benjamin Liles III, 42, were arrested Tuesday;
  • Reginald Dale Cadlett, 29, Shaking Fisher, 33, and John Marcus Tarver, 23, were arrested Wednesday;
  • and Quinton Tyrell Lester, 24, was arrested April 2.

More arrests are likely, authorities said. The Sheriff's Emergency Response Team, Sheriff's Warrant Squad, Federal Bureau of Investigation, State Bureau of Investigation and the North Carolina National Guard Counter Drug Task Force assisted with the investigation.
