Thanksgiving travel smooth across North Carolina

Among those working on the holiday were state troopers who kept busy writing tickets and making arrests for traffic violations including speeding, driving with a revoked license and drunk driving.

The patrol always has extra people working on the holiday due to the high number of drivers traveling.

Roadways and airports operated without any major problems Wednesday, one of the busiest travel days of the year. Representatives at the state's largest airports say they saw no protests about Transportation Security Administration screening procedures and that there were no significant flight delays.

The Department of Transportation has suspended work on most road projects until Monday. DOT spokesman Steve Abbott said there were a few minor accidents Wednesday but no widespread problems. He expects some congestion as people leaving work mix with holiday travelers.
