State running out of time again for budget extension
The General Assembly has little time left to extend a stopgap measure that tells North Carolina state government agencies how to spend without a final budget in place.
Posted — UpdatedHouse and Senate Democrats were expected Wednesday to work out a compromise on another so-called "continuing resolution" because the first one approved two weeks ago expires at midnight.
The bill is needed because the new fiscal year began July 1 and there's still no permanent two-year budget plan in place.
The House rejected Tuesday a Senate version of the temporary spending measure in part because it didn't contain an expiration date. The House wants another deadline, preferably before the end of the month.
The temporary bill helps the state save money while the final deal is worked out.
