UNC board names new A&T chancellor
Leaders of North Carolina's 16-campus university system on Friday named a new chancellor at North Carolina A&T State University.

Harold Martin, senior vice president of academic affairs for the University of North Carolina system, was picked to head the Greensboro college.
The school was looking for a replacement for Stanley Battle, who cited family and personal reasons for his sudden resignation in February. Though Battle has refused to talk any more about the resignation, staff and faculty said personality and philosophical clashes might have led to the split.
Martin served as chancellor at Winston-Salem State University from 2000 through 2006.
“We needed someone who will improve the retention and graduation rates for the university,” said Franklin McCain, chairman of the A&T Board of Trustees.
“Harold Martin is one of the best education and university leaders in America,” Gov. Beverly Perdue said in a statement. “I worked with him when he was chancellor at Winston-Salem State and as vice president in the university system. He is the right leader to move A&T forward.”
