Perdue names chief of staff, sets inauguration date
Governor-elect Beverly Perdue on Tuesday named longtime aide Zach Ambrose as her chief of staff and set Jan. 10 as the day she will be sworn in as North Carolina's first female governor.

Ambrose, who also will lead Perdue's transition team in the coming weeks, served as her chief of staff in the Lieutenant Governor's Office from 2005 to 2007, when he became her campaign manager.
A North Carolina native, Ambrose has degrees in electrical engineering and Russian from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and served five years in the Navy.
“Zach Ambrose will be a strong leader for this administration,” Perdue said in a statement. “His knowledge of the issues facing our state will be a great asset as we move North Carolina forward.”
In addition to Ambrose, former cabinet secretary Norris Tolson and Don Hobart, who succeeded Ambrose as Perdue's chief of staff, will serve on the transition team.
Tolson is president of the North Carolina Biotechnology Center and was revenue secretary for outgoing Gov. Mike Easley. He also served as transportation secretary and commerce secretary under former Gov. Jim Hunt.
