ASHEVILLE, N.C. — Forecasters said Tuesday morning's temperatures are expected to be within a few degrees of the freezing mark.

The National Weather Service said a freeze warning was expected to remain in effect for parts of central North Carolina until mid-morning. Officials said temperatures could drop so low that it could kill crops and other sensitive vegetation.

Despite the low temperatures, forecasters said the region is still experiencing warmer-than-usual temperatures.

Forecasters said the cold weather is the result of clear skies, light wind and cold pressure.
