Man Arrested in Goldsboro Funeral-Home Shooting
A man has been charged with murder in the shoooting of a woman last week outside a funeral home where her boyfriend was being waked.
Posted — UpdatedKelvin Buffalo Jr. is charged with murder in the death of Sharon Sheppard, 28, the Goldsboro Police Department said. He was arrested at a home on South Andrews Street, they said.
Sheppard was shot Thursday while she was in the parking lot of McIntyre Funeral Home, outside a funeral for Raheim Antwon Kornegay, 23. Police issued a warrant for Buffalo on Friday.
Buffalo was released from state prison in February after serving eight months for speeding to elude arrest. He previously served a sentence for assault and inflicting serious bodily injury. and had also been convicted on charges of resisting an officer and other assault charges.
Kornegay was shot and killed April 22 inside the couple's apartment. Police had interviewed Sheppard, who was in the apartment at the time of the shooting, early last week and had called her a "person of interest" in the case.
About 300 mourners were leaving the funeral home when Sheppard was shot, witnesses said.
The shooting created a chaotic scene, police said, noting that they had difficulty obtaining a solid description of the gunman or getaway car despite numerous witnesses.
"It's a pretty tough situation to know that there are some children on Earth that, in the course of a couple of days, don't have either parent," Goldsboro police Sgt. Chad Calloway said.
