Fayetteville museum recognizes Airborne Day

The public was invited to the event Saturday to mark the 72nd anniversary of the first sets of parachute jumps at Fort Benning in Georgia. Due to the chance for severe weather, the event will end at 2 p.m., one hour earlier than scheduled.

The celebration will include a free-fall parachute demonstration by the Golden Knights; the U.S. Army Parachute Team; the Black Daggers of the U.S. Army Special Operations Command; and the 82nd Airborne Division's All American Freefall Team.

A wreath will be laid in front of the Iron Mike statue at Fort Bragg in honor of all airborne and special operations soldiers who have died while defending their country. Fort Bragg soldiers will display both modern and older weapons, equipment and machinery.
