Wake school board member announces bid for state House seat

“I am running for North Carolina House, because the challenges facing North Carolina require conservative solutions,” Malone, a Republican, said in a statement. “My top priority as a state Representative will be to help foster a business climate suitable for job creation. Cutting taxes, reducing excessive regulations and providing more training opportunities for workers are the keys to creating jobs, and I will support legislation which furthers these aims.”

Cary Democrat Jennifer Weiss, who has served in the state House for 13 years, currently represents the 35th District, but she is not eligible to run against Malone in the new district, because she will no longer live in it.

The new district maps haven’t yet been approved by the U.S. Department of Justice. The election will be November 2012.

Malone, 54, was elected to the District 1 Board of Education seat in 2009 and was on the Wake Forest Board of Commissioners from 2001 to 2005. He works as a case manager at G4S Compliance and Investigations, Inc. and has been employed at the firm for 20 years.

“As a Wake Forest town commissioner and a member of the Wake County Board of Education, I have consistently fought for conservative principles," he said. "I am proud to be a conservative and I have a solid record to prove it."

Malone's term on the school board seat expires in November 2013.
