Perdue meets with Obama in DC

Gov. Bev Perdue joined her fellow Democratic governors at the White House today for a meeting with President Barack Obama.  

Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley, chairman of the Democratic Governors' Association, said the President had asked them to meet with business leaders in their states and bring back their recommendations for fixing the economy. 

Perdue, the DGA vice chairwoman, took the podium for some brief comments.

"It starts with jobs," Perdue said.  "Our people have got to go back to work.  We talked about capital access, we talked about infrastructure, we talked about rules and regulations...and we focused on what the great job creator is, and longterm, you all know that's education."  

"We do intend to win the future," she added. "We're gonna win the future by putting our people back to work." 

She didn't speak during the short question-and-answer session.

Perdue will be in D.C. until early next week for the winter meeting of the National Governors' Association.
