Legislative coverage wins award

WRAL News coverage of the General Assembly, including live streams from key committee meetings and legislative sessions, got a nod Monday from the N.C. Center for Voter Education.

WRAL News coverage of the General Assembly, including live streams from key committee meetings and legislative sessions, got a nod Monday from the N.C. Center for Voter Education.

The center, a Raleigh-based nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that advocates for voter participation called WRAL News and particularly @NCCapitol an "Outstanding Media Organization" for "giving citizens across the state a first-hand, unfiltered look inside their General Assembly." 

The center announced its 2012 Spectrum of Democracy award winners Monday.

Others honored include:

Jack Betts, a longtime political columnist who wrote for the Greensboro News & Record and the Charlotte Observer.

Judy Caudill, who retired after 42 years as director of elections in Lincoln County.

Ricky McDevitt, a longtime civics and government teacher at Madison High School in Madison County.
