Goldman seeks Auditor's seat

Wake County school board member Debra Goldman has announced she's running for State Auditor. 

"We North Carolinians have lost faith and confidence in our elected officials, many to the point of becoming cynical of our own state government, and inured to the abuse of trust by our elected officials," Goldman says in the video. 

Goldman was elected to the Wake County Board of Education in 2009, and is still in her first term in public office.  Neither her website nor her video lists a party affiliation, but she is a registered Republican.

According to her WCBE bio, her "professional experience includes management, business development, staffing, procurement, sales, marketing and consulting. Debra holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Advertising from Pennsylvania State University." There's no mention of a background in accounting or bookkeeping, though that isn't required to hold the office of Auditor.

She is the first Republican candidate to enter the auditor's race for 2012. Unless she gains a May challenger for the GOP nomination, she'll face Democratic incumbent State Auditor Beth Wood in the fall. 

Goldman intends to stay on the school board during the campaign.

"I will continue my service to the people of Wake County during this election process. I take this responsibility very seriously and will continue with honor to question every decision made, to analyze every policy and to make decisions based on data, as to what is in the best interest of every child in Wake County, their families and our tax payers and stakeholders," she said via email.
