Colin's threat dissipates

Any threat to the eastern seaboard of the United State has passed unless the storm re-forms, WRAL meteorologist Mike Maze said.

MIAMI — Tropical Storm Colin was downgraded Tuesday afternoon by the National Weather Service to remnant low status.

The system, which was far out in the Atlantic, about 700 miles east of The Bahamas and more than 2,000 miles from the North Carolina coast.

Any threat to the eastern seaboard of the United State has passed unless the storm re-forms, WRAL meteorologist Mike Maze said.

The National Hurricane Center in Miami says the storm had maximum sustained winds near 40 mph (65 kph) at 4 p.m. Tuesday and some additional strengthening is expected.
