American Shingles CEO arrested

American Shingle CEO Carlton Dunko faces more than a dozen theft charges. According to an arrest warrant, Dunko is accused of taking $270,000 in deposits for roof work that was not provided.

RALEIGH, N.C. — The chief executive officer of an Atlanta-based roofing company accused of swindling homeowners in 10 states, including North Carolina, was arrested in Georgia on Tuesday.

American Shingle CEO Carlton Dunko faces more than a dozen theft charges. According to an arrest warrant, Dunko is accused of taking $270,000 in deposits for roof work that was not provided.

Investigators have arrest warrants for two other company executives as well. 

Better Business Bureaus across the country, who reported hundreds of complaints on the company last year, said customers lost a total of $2 million.

The North Carolina Attorney General’s Office issued a court order in August to stop American Shingle from doing business in the state. 

In September, the company filed bankruptcy. According to the filing, in the months leading up to the bankruptcy, Dunko collected tens of thousands of dollars in shareholder payments.
