New suit extends accusations against former UNC pediatrician
More patients of a former UNC pediatrician filed suit Monday in Massachusetts adding to allegations of abuse. The suit charges Children's Hospital in Boston with negligence and alleges leaders there knew Dr. Mel Levine was fondling patients.

Dr. Mel Levine was nationally known for his work on developmental and learning issues, his nonprofit All Kinds of Minds. He was an adjunct professor in the University of North Carolina Pediatrics Department and director of the Clinical Center for Development and Research, and was chief of pediatrics at Children's Hospital in Boston from 1971 to 1985.
He was found dead in his Rougemont home Feb. 18. He was 71. His wife called Orange County deputies after finding a suicide note.
The first complaints about Levine surfaced in 2008, when former patients in Boston filed suit alleging he had fondled them during unnecessary genital exams. Levine, through his attorney, denied the accusations but asked that his medical license be put on 'inactive' status and agreed to discontinue seeing patients.
Since his death, additional patients have come forward. The suit filed Monday charges Children's Hospital in Boston with negligence and alleges leaders there knew Levine was acting outside the bounds of medical care and failed to discipline or report him.
