Longtime Raleigh community activist Jessie Copeland has died, her family confirmed Sunday.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Longtime Raleigh community activist Jessie Copeland has died, her family confirmed Sunday.

Copeland founded the Inter-Project Council, which is credited with improving living conditions for public housing residents. 

She was also designated one of former President Bill Clinton's Points of Light, a title reserved for people who are actively engaged in fighting poverty in their community.

She received the Rosa Parks Award in 1995.

She was 87.
