DURHAM, N.C. — A multiple shooting early Monday at Pinecrest apartments, 608 Hardee St., left one man dead and two men injured, according to Durham police.

"The names are not being released at this time. No charges have been filed," police spokeswoman Kammie Michael said in a statement.

Officers were patrolling near the apartment complex around 3:10 a.m. when they heard several shots.

"One male died from his wounds. The other two males were taken to Duke University Hospital for treatment – one suffered serious injuries and the other man's injuries do not appear to be life-threatening," Michael said.

Witness Solomon Townsend said he heard the gunshots.

"We immediately dropped to the floor and then I went to the door to try to see what was going on, and the guy actually tried to come in our door and I just closed the door and we called the police," he said.
