HENDERSON, N.C. — A 19-year-old man was killed in a triple shooting in Henderson shortly before midnight Saturday, police said.

Henderson police said authorities responded to a shooting call at a home in the 500 block of Lone Street around 11:45 p.m.

Hassan Terry, of Henderson, died at the scene of a gunshot wound, police said.

Terry’s mother, Brenda Harris, said the shooting occurred during a celebration honoring her late son, Raymond Dunn, who died after collapsing during a basketball game at Vance Granville Community College in February.

"He (Hassan) always had smiles and he had respect for people,” Brenda Harris said.

Police said 9-year-old Jontavious Howard was shot twice. The third-grader was in intensive care Sunday evening at Duke University Medical Center.

"He just came up to see one of his friends and he just got caught in the cross fire,” Howard's mother, Sular Eaton, said Sunday. “He was shot in the lower abdomen and he got shot up in the right hip, and he still has a bullet in him."

The third victim, a 20-year-old man, was taken to Maria Parham Hospital in Henderson, hospital officials said. He was treated and released. His name was not released.

Police said no arrests have been made and the investigation was ongoing.

"I don't know who did it, it just happened so fast,” Hassan Terry's cousin, George Terry, said.
