RALEIGH, N.C. — Investigators say there are no signs of foul play involving a body found floating in a lake on the North Carolina State University campus.

N.C. State police Chief Tom Younce said Thursday afternoon that the conclusion is based on findings in a preliminary investigation from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

Younce also said that the body is that of a male, but his age and identity were not known Thursday afternoon.

A couple walking with their children found the badly decomposed body floating in the southwest corner of Lake Raleigh, off Centennial Boulevard, Wednesday afternoon.

Younce said it appeared to have been in the lake for quite some time.

“This is very unusual at North Carolina State University," he said Wednesday. "We have not had any reports of missing students. The campus closed last week, so hopefully it’s not a student."
