CARY, N.C. — A pool cleaner was charged Friday with touching an 11-year-old girl inappropriately at a subdivision pool in Cary, police said.

Ashley Cooper Fuller, 23, of 207 Hyde Park Court, Apt. K in Cary, was charged with taking indecent liberties with a child. He was being held in the Wake County jail under a $50,000 bond.

Fuller was cleaning the pool at the McCrimmon at the Park subdivision on April 30, and he struck up a conversation with the girl, said Capt. Mike Williams of the Cary Police Department.

The conversation led to inappropriate contact between the two in a bathroom at the pool, Williams said.

The girl's family reported the alleged incident to police immediately, and detectives have been investigating the case since then, Williams said.

"We've investigated it thoroughly, discussed it with the DA's office and this is what we feel like is the most appropriate charge," he said.

Court records indicate that Fuller was convicted of felony breaking and entering in 2007 in New Hanover County and pleaded guilty to misdemeanor financial fraud in Hyde County in 2008.

The company Fuller works for, American Pool Service in Raleigh, could not be reached for comment Friday.
