FOUR OAKS, N.C. — A tanker truck carrying 9,000 gallons of fuel overturned on U.S. Highway 701 early Thursday after the driver's headlights malfunctioned and went out, according to authorities on the scene.

The crash happened around 2:30 a.m. near Keen Road. Deputies reopened the road by 8:45 a.m.

The driver, whose name was not released, survived the crash. After his lights went out, the driver hit the brakes and the truck rolled over onto the shoulder.

Crews worked to get the tractor-trailer up-righted. No fuel spilled out of the truck, according to environmental clean-up crews on the scene.
