TARBORO, N.C. — A Tarboro woman was recovering on Thursday after being run over by a herd of deer over the weekend.

Michelle Brewer said she was opening Brewer’s Fine Jewelry, 228 N. Main St., the store she co-owns with her husband, on Saturday morning when the incident occurred.

After Brewer parked her car next to the store, she walked around the corner and saw the deer.

“I remember seeing them and that was it,” Brewer said. “There was no time to do anything.”

A herd of about nine deer barreled down the sidewalk and ran over her.

Brewer said she could hear the hooves making prints on the ground and her body.

Brewer doesn’t remember much. Others who saw it happen gave her more specific details.

“They said I was flipping up into the air and I landed on my head and the rest of the deer just trampled over me,” Brewer said.

Tony Battle said he saw the incident from his barber shop across the street.

“It was amazing how that deer hit her and picked her up,” Battle said.

Brewer suffered bruises all over her body. She said her jaw also was injured.

Though Brewer did not go to the hospital initially, she said she is planning to visit her doctor and dentist soon.

In her 25 years owning a store downtown, Brewer said she has never seen a deer there.
