Cary students donate food to local charity

More than 200 students at Primrose Schools nationwide are using money they earned doing chores at home to buy food for local charities.

Primrose students from West Cary shopped for items on Wednesday at a local Harris Teeter.

“We just want them to learn that it’s great to help others. Especially those who need it the most,” said Charlene Gazaway, a teacher at Primrose.

Primrose student Anna Escoto earned money by cleaning the playroom with her mother, washing dishes, sweeping and vacuuming at home.

“They were doing small chores around the house and brought money in. We collected it in a bucket and brought it all in to shop today,” Gazaway said.

“It makes me very happy that they can eat different things,” Anna said of the donation.

Tiffany Miner, 8, heard the organizers of the annual Thanksgiving dinner at the Durham Rescue Mission were looking for more turkeys.

Miner asked her father if she could buy one with allowance money.

Because of her efforts, the general manager of a local Sam’s Club donated 20 turkeys and cakes and 10 pies to the mission.
