RALEIGH, N.C. — A 21-year-old convicted felon invaded a Raleigh couple's home and shot the husband and himself during a scuffle Tuesday night, police said.

Christopher Lee Leach, who also uses the last name McNeil, knocked on the couple's door at 1221 University Court, off Avent Ferry Drive, around 9:30 p.m., police said.

He was wearing a ski mask and holding a gun when David Trammell, 28, opened the door, police said. Trammell said he and his wife had just returned home and locked the door before they heard a knock.

Trammell and Leach wrestled, causing Leach's ski mask to come off and the gun to discharge, hitting Trammell in the left shoulder and Leach in the leg, police said. Trammell's wife was not injured.

Trammell told police that he recognized Leach as the boyfriend of a woman who lives in their apartment suite. Each apartment has four suites and one living room.

Trammell was taken to WakeMed. Leach also showed up at the hospital for treatment, and WakeMed officials called police. Both men had non-life-threatening injuries. Leach was released from the hospital on Thursday and was being held under a $200,000 bond at Wake County jail Thursday evening.

Authorities charged Leach with robbery with a dangerous weapon, first-degree burglary, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and possession of a firearm by a felon.
