Raleigh car dealership robbed in broad daylight

Dealership owner Randy Cavender said the suspect and two accomplices were first spotted waiting outside Silver State Imports, 2501 Capital Blvd., around 1 p.m.

“The one guy has got a gray hoodie that he's pulled down real low, and he's looking at the asphalt, and he won't look up. I said to these guys (coworkers), I said, ‘I don't like the way this looks. I think we're going to be robbed,’” Cavender said.

Cavender said the suspect, identified by police as Jeremy Kofi Amakye, ran through the front door of the dealership and pointed a gun at his face.

“He stuck the gun right in my face ... and said, ‘Give me the money,’” Cavender said.

Cavender said Amakye left the dealership with a briefcase containing $1,400 and 150 car titles.

“It happened so quickly. It was over with in seconds. I mean seconds,” Cavender said.

Amakye had the two accomplices wait for him outside the dealership in a green Toyota 4Runner, according to Cavender.

A motorist spotted the vehicle speeding away from the dealership. He wrote down the 4Runner's license plate number and drove back to the dealership with the information. Cavender said the plate number helped police find and arrest Amakye.

Amakye, of 1417 Cricket Ridge, was charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon. 

Police were still investigating the incident Sunday. According to Amakye's arrest warrant, police believe his accomplices were Justin Brown and Antwon Jones. No additional information about the two suspects was provided by police.

Cavender said the car titles can easily be replaced by the Department of Motor Vehicles.
