Man escapes Robeson County jail
Jamal Antonio McRae, 18, claimed to have chest pains, then assaulted a detention officer and fled the Robeson County Detention Center Tuesday night.

An inmate escaped from the Robeson County Detention Center Tuesday night, the sheriff's office said.
Jamal Antonio McRae, 18, was arrested in Lumberton in March as a suspect in crimes in four counties. According to state Department of Correction records, he was on probation at the time of his arrest.
He was being held on charges of kidnapping, attempted murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon and aggravated assault with a dangerous weapon inflicting serious injury.
On Tuesday just before midnight, McRae claimed to be having chest pains. He then assaulted the detention officer who was escorting him to get medical attention and fled, the sheriff's office said.
McRae is described as a black man with short black hair or dreadlocks and brown eyes. He is 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighs about 175 pounds. At the time of his escape, he was wearing an orange jumpsuit and white sneakers.
His last known address is 800 Old Whiteville Road, Lot 59 in Lumberton.
The sheriff's office warned that McRae should be considered armed and dangerous. Anyone who sees him is asked to call 911 or the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office at 910-671-3100.
