RALEIGH, N.C. — The Wake County Board of Education approved delays Tuesday for the multi-year student assignment plan.

Slow bond sales to build three new schools have led to construction delays. As a result, the board announced student assignments to the new Forest Ridge High, Rolesville Middle and Walnut Creek Elementary will be delayed two years.

The delays will cause additional crowding at surrounding schools, officials said. The board plans to explore the use of modular classrooms and reducing the number of year-round applications at some schools to help create space.

In February, the board voted 6-2 in favor of the assignment plan.
