Reward offered in fatal Fayetteville shooting
Gov. Bev Perdue’s office is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in the 2007 shooting death of Weldon D. Baker.
Posted — Updated“This was someone who wasn’t trying to be Superman or to stop it,” Baker’s wife Val Jones-Baker said Thursday. “This was someone who was asking, ‘Brother, why are you doing this?’”
Jones-Baker said she and her husband had been packing up the entire day in preparation to drive to Alabama. They had planned to start new jobs and a new life. An acquaintance had been helping the couple move. He was not injured.
Police said they have no solid leads in the shooting. Det. Terrance Phillips said the “lack of communication from the community” has made the case more difficult.
Anyone with any information about the case is asked to contact Fayetteville police at 910-433-1856 or Crime Stoppers at 910-483-8477.
