ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — Rocky Mount police said they have located a woman reported missing earlier Tuesday.
A friend told police that she last saw Mary Michelle Williams, 40, of 801 Long Ave., around 7 a.m. Sunday when Williams stopped by her home at 1606 Old Wilson Road to pick up the children.

The children, however, were staying with their babysitter, police said, at 808 S. Tillery St. Williams never arrived, and the friend called police after she became concerned.

Capt. Laura Fahnestock, commander of the police department's Criminal Investigations Division, said police located Williams just before 8 p.m. Tuesday.

She was unharmed and stated she did not want her family to be aware of her location, Fahnestock said.

Police said they will continue to investigate possible child neglect charges in regards to the welfare of Williams' children.

Williams case alerted some people in the area since she fit a similar description of several Rocky Mount women who have been reported missing in recent years, including five who were found dead in rural Edgecombe County over the past four years.
