Driver charged in wreck that killed Raleigh student

Raleigh police say Chadius Dominick Watson was driving the car that collided with another vehicle, killed Kevin Jones and hurt five others.

RALEIGH, N.C. — The driver of a car involved in a wreck that killed a Raleigh high school student in May has been charged in connection with his death.

Chadius Dominick Watson, 18, of 3115 Guiding Light Road, was charged Wednesday with one count each of death by motor vehicle, a seatbelt violation and operating a vehicle with improper equipment, which police said was excessively worn tires.

Raleigh police said Watson was driving the car on May 5 when Kevin Lanier Jones, 18, of 3709 Kings Road Lane in Wendell, was killed. Four other people, including Watson, were injured.

According to the wreck report, Watson was driving south on Sunnybrook Road when his car crossed the center line, and struck another vehicle, driven by Susan Mann. She was also injured.

Jones, as well as Watson and the three other people in his car, was a senior at Southeast Raleigh Magnet High School. Mann, 44, of 2004 Boxholm Circle, is a nurse at the school.
