Slain principal's husband told 911 shooting was accidental
A man charged with fatally shooting his wife last month told an emergency operator she had been moving his gun when she accidentally shot herself, according to a 911 call released Monday.

CARTHAGE, N.C. — A man charged with fatally shooting his wife last month told an emergency operator she had been moving his gun when she accidentally shot herself, according to a 911 call released Monday.
"(She was shot) in the head. She's dead," Randy Martin Baughn said in the May 24 call. "She was moving it from my nightstand to bring to me," he said. "And I didn't know it was cocked."
Moore County deputies responded to the call to find Abigail "Abby" Alexander Baughn, 36, dead inside the couple's home.
Investigators arrested Randy Baughn, 38, hours later and charged him with murder. He is being held in the Moore County jail without bond.
Authorities have not offered a motive for the shooting.
Abigail Bond was a popular assistant principal at Pinecrest High School in Carthage, where she oversaw 11th and 12th grades.
She started work for the Moore County school system in 1999 as an Exceptional Children teacher at Union Pines High School and later became the director of the program.
