Delaware fugitive arrested in Fayetteville

Deputies arrested Dandre Ryshon Rogers, 22, at a home on Cain Road in Fayetteville.

Members of the U.S. Marshals Violent Fugitive Task Force, Cumberland County sheriff’s deputies, Fayetteville police officers and State probation officers say Rogers has been a fugitive from justice since Jan. 5.

He is accused of shooting and killing Derrick Hoey, 41, a man known as a mentor in the Wilmington community, according to authorities.

Hoey trained boxers how to fight in the ring and was known for stopping fights outside the ring. Friends described him as a self-admitted trouble maker who turned his life around and helped others do the same.

Hoey’s death was the first homicide of 2009 in Wilmington, officials said. He was shot in the face while trying to stop Rogers from physically assaulting a woman, authorities said.

Rogers will remain in the Cumberland County Detention Center without bond until he is extradited to Delaware to face first-degree murder charges.
