Western Harnett High student, graduate killed in wreck

Timothy Neill Cameron Jr., 17, and Brittany Wilson, 19, died in the wreck on Womack Road, near Cool Spring Road, east of the Broadway community.

Troopers said a black pickup truck driven by Cameron ran off the road, down an embankment and into some woods around 4:15 p.m.

Troopers have not released more details of the wreck. It was Harnett County's first fatal wreck of the year, authorities said.

Cameron was a senior at West Harnett High, and Wilson was a recent graduate. They had been dating for about a year and a half, her relatives said.

Wilson loved the outdoors and worked as a receptionist at Raven Rock State Park, her family said. She also loved to be with her family. Wilson was on her way home and less than a mile from her home when the wreck occurred, they said.

"There's not even explaining how somebody so young could touch so many lives and be that precious and that beautiful. She was just great," Wilson's cousin, Millie Thomas, said.

"Brittany, well, I called her 'Chick,' and I always have," Thomas added. "Brittany was a beautiful, beautiful girl. She was beautiful inside, beautiful outside."

Cameron's family declined to talk Thursday night.

Wilson's family members said they have watched news coverage of teenagers killed in wrecks and it breaks their hearts to see young relatives as the latest victims.

"Just slow down. Young people, slow down. You've got your whole lives ahead of you," Thomas said. "Just slow down, and really do stop and smell the roses so you'll be able to smell them for a long time."

Counselors will be at West Harnett High School Friday to help grieving students.
