Franklin County hit-and-run remains a mystery
Authorities say they have little information to go on in a hit-and-run that critically injured a Franklin County man nearly a month ago.
Posted — UpdatedRALEIGH, N.C. — Authorities say they have little information to go on in a hit-and-run that critically injured a Franklin County man nearly a month ago.
Willie Williams, 43, was driving a moped along the southbound lane of U.S. Highway 1 in Franklin County a little before 7 a.m. on Dec. 18 when he was struck and left on the side of the road, according to the North Carolina Highway Patrol.
He has since been recovering at WakeMed in Raleigh with a broken leg, broken jaw and broken back.
"I don't remember anything about that day," Williams said. "I don't even remember waking up that day."
The only information investigators have in the case is based on marks on the moped, which indicate the vehicle was white.
Family members also say they believe the driver stopped after Williams was hit and then drove away.
The Highway Patrol said a motorist reported seeing a woman getting in a car and driving away from the scene but say they cannot confirm that was the person who hit him.
In an effort to generate more leads, Williams' family is offering a $2,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction for the person responsible for the hit-and-run.
Williams, who is being fed out of a tube, meanwhile, says he has one simple goal: to one day be able to go home and play with his children – whose photos he keeps by his bed – again. It's unclear how long he will have to remain at WakeMed.
"I just want to go home," he said. "I just want to be with my kids, that's all."
