WARSAW, N.C. — One person was hospitalized Monday as the result of a wreck on Interstate 40 westbound in Duplin County.

Orlando Wyatt, of Durham, was driving a tractor-trailer near mile marker 364 west of Warsaw when, according to the state Highway Patrol, a contract mower from Cumberland County veered in front of him in the right lane.

Witnesses said Wyatt swerved to miss the tractor and his truck overturned in the median. A wire guardrail prevented the tractor-trailer from entering eastbound lanes.

Wyatt was treated for minor injuries at Duplin Hospital and released Monday afternoon.

The driver of the mower, Alexander Covington suffered serious injuries. He was being treated at Pitt Memorial Hospital. His condition was not released.

Two other cars which had been traveling behind the tractor-trailer sustained some damage, but no one else was hurt.

I-40 westbound reopened just after 1:30 p.m., the Highway Patrol reported.
